Random Thoughts: Slow people in the passing lane?

For 5 years I made a daily commute from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, roughly a 130mile daily trip. Without fail each trip there would be at least one driver that is going slow (>75 the speed limit) in the passing lane refusing to yield right of way to faster “passing” traffic. What kills me is that when an opportunity arises to pass these “fart knockers” (or FK’s) they again, 80% of the time, speed up to prevent anyone from passing. I’ve seen FKs go from 55 to nearly 110mph to prevent someone from passing them. So it’s not a fear of speed. I’ve seen FKs slam on their brakes at >75mph nearly causing a multiple car pileup. Now being a psych major, now computer geek, Ive tried to understand this pattern. What are they afraid of certainly not slower people passing them? Kinda sounds ridiculous. Power trip? The ability to conform others to their will?
